George M. Chioran, OD, MD, FACS

An eye physician and surgeon, Dr. George Chioran is one of the few eye care providers in central Ohio to be trained in both ophthalmology and optometry. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a graduate of both the Ohio State University College of Optometry and the Indiana University College of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency in Indianapolis where he was selected as the Chief Teaching Resident. During his training, he was honored with research fellowships from the American Medical Association and Fight For Sight and has published research articles on a wide range of topics, including optic nerve disease, color vision, and eye movement control.

As an educator, Dr. Chioran served on the faculty of the Indiana University College of Optometry, where he won several teaching awards from his students. He is currently on the clinical faculty of the Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology. Additionally, he had the foresight to recognize that laser vision correction would transform the way people would see the world. In 1995 he was one of the first physicians in Central Ohio to be trained in Laser Vision Correction and helped proctor other physicians in Ohio as they learned these techniques.

In 1998 Dr. Chioran was honored with the Columbus Medical Association Public Service Award. He is listed in Best Doctors and Castle Connolly Top Doctors and is listed as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Consumers’ Research Council of America.  He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
