Director of Corneal Services
Dr. Beckman is a board-certified ophthalmologist and cornea specialist. He was born in Columbus and graduated from Bexley High School. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University. After an internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Dr. Beckman completed an ophthalmology residency at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, serving as chief resident in 1994-1995. He then completed a cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Beckman has been practicing ophthalmology in Columbus since 1996 and joined Comprehensive Eye Care in July 2012 as Director of Corneal Services.
Dr. Beckman is a past president and past treasurer of the Columbus Ophthalmology and ENT society and a past member of the Board of Trustees for Prevent Blindness Ohio. Dr. Beckman is active in clinical ophthalmology research and has been involved in numerous clinical studies. He has published articles in ophthalmology journals and has presented his research at national meetings, such as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He was recently involved in two FDA trials for the treatment of keratoconus and corneal ectasia using collagen cross-linking technology.
Dr. Beckman specializes in small-incision cataract surgery, cornea and external diseases, corneal transplant surgery including the new DSEK surgery, pterygium surgery, as well as glaucoma treatment and general ophthalmology. He has a special interest in the treatment of dry eye disease. Dry eye disease is one of the most common reasons for visits to eye physicians and can be very debilitating for patients. Dr. Beckman has extensive experience with treating this condition and is involved with many new protocols to manage dry eyes.
Dr. Beckman is listed in Best Doctors, Castle Connolly Top Doctors, the Global Directory of Who’s Who and is listed as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Consumers’ Research Council of America in cornea and cataract surgery.
